Annapurna Mini Market

Our little market is located in the Ganesh Complex in Vadgoensheri, specifically at unit 546/9. It’s a typical neighborhood store where we sell the basics that everyone needs daily. We open the shutters early, usually before the sun is fully up, to get everything ready for the morning milk and bread run. The shop isn't very big, so we have to be clever about how we stack the sacks of rice and the crates of oil. It’s a family business, so you’ll see the same three or four of us here every single day. We don't have fancy lighting or air conditioning. It’s just a simple room with shelves and a counter. We spend a lot of time talking to the neighbors who come in. You hear all sorts of stories while you’re weighing out lentils or counting change. We try to keep the prices fair, even when things get more expensive from the wholesalers. Sometimes the deliveries are late and we have to explain to a regular customer why we don't have their favorite brand of tea today. That’s just part of running a small place like this. We don't have a computer system; we just use a notebook to keep track of things. It’s a lot of work and our backs usually ache by closing time, but it’s a good life. We’re glad to be a small part of the Vadgoensheri community.
