Our business, All States Fruits & Vegetables Merchants, is tucked away in the N G E F Ancillary Industrial Estate at number 615 on Karve Road. It’s a big space because we need room for all the crates that come in from different parts of the country. Every morning, very early, the trucks start pulling in with stuff from all over. We get apples from the north and bananas from the south. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting boxes and sorting through things to make sure nothing is bruised. The air inside always smells like ripening fruit, which is quite nice actually. We sell mostly to the smaller vendors and shops around the city. They come by in their tempos to load up. The floor is usually covered in discarded leaves or bits of cardboard. We have a few desks where we keep track of who owes what, but it’s mostly handled with quick notes and handshakes. Karve Road is always packed with traffic, so we try to get our big deliveries done before the morning rush starts. It’s a hectic life, but we’ve been doing it at this location for years. We aren't a supermarket; we are just wholesale merchants doing our thing in an industrial estate. You won't find any fancy displays here, just rows and rows of produce ready to go out to the local markets.
