Akshay Garage

If you go down Himmatlal Park Road in Hadapsar, you will see Akshay Garage. It’s easy to spot because there are usually a few cars parked out front in various states of being fixed. The ground is always a bit oily, no matter how much we try to clean it up. I’ve been running this garage for a while now. My hands are almost always dirty from the engines, but that’s just part of the job. We don't have a waiting room with a TV or anything like that. People usually just stand around and chat for a bit while we look at their vehicles. The tools are all hanging on the wall, and I know exactly which wrench is which just by feeling them. Hadapsar is a busy place, so there’s always someone with a puncture or an engine problem. We work outside under the shed mostly. When it rains, it gets a bit difficult, but we manage. I have one helper who stays with me throughout the day. We don't do any big marketing. The name is just painted on the wall. It’s a tough job sometimes, especially in the summer heat, but I like being my own boss. We finish up when the sun goes down, or sometimes later if there’s a big job that needs to be done. It’s just a honest place to get your car fixed without any extra fuss.
