We run Ak Scrap Center out in Chikhlee, specifically at ShethPole Ratan Pole. It is a scrap yard, so as you can imagine, it is not the cleanest place in the world. We have piles of metal, old iron, and bits of copper scattered all over the place. Our work involves sorting through what people bring us and weighing it out on the big scales. It is hard physical work, and we are usually covered in rust and dirt by the end of the day. The ShethPole area is a bit dusty, and the sun beats down on the metal piles, making them hot to the touch in the summer. We don't have any fancy offices, just a small shack where we keep the records and the cash box. People come from all over Chikhlee with their old appliances or construction scrap. We spend a lot of time breaking things down with hammers and shears to get to the valuable parts inside. It’s a noisy place with the sound of metal clanging and trucks backing in and out. Sometimes the piles get so high we have to spend a whole day just moving things around to make room for more arrivals. We don’t have a website or any ads; people just know the Ak Scrap Center is at Ratan Pole when they have something to get rid of. It’s an honest way to make a living, even if it is a bit messy and loud most of the time.
