Down in Shindewadi, things are a bit different than the city. We are out in Shirwal, in the Khandala Taluka. It’s a bit of a trek to get here, but it’s where we do all our packing work. The air is a bit clearer than Mumbai, which is nice for the people who work here. We spend most of our time at the facility handling the machines and the boxes. It’s a practical setup. Nothing too flashy. You’ll find us easily enough if you are looking for the Santra area. The road gets busy with trucks carrying all sorts of goods, not just ours. Some of us live nearby and walk to work, while others take the bus. It’s a steady routine. We start the shifts early. The floor is usually covered with tape and cardboard scraps by noon, then we clean it up and start again. It gets hot in the afternoons, so the big doors stay open for some breeze. We have a small canteen area where everyone sits together during the lunch break. It’s mostly talk about family or what’s happening in the village. We’ve been part of this industrial patch for a long time. The seasons change, the rains come down hard in the hills, but the work here keeps moving along just the same. It’s just how we earn our living every day while staying out of the way.
