Sadashiv Peth 459 is where we are, tucked into one of those narrow lanes that the old part of the city is known for. The building is quite old, and the stairs are a bit narrow. We do a lot of different things here, like mobile recharges and helping people with their phone plans. There’s a xerox machine in the corner that gets used a lot by the students from the nearby hostels. It’s always running out of paper at the wrong time. The shop is small, so if more than three people come in at once, it feels very crowded. We have a lot of wires and cables hanging from hooks on the walls. It’s not very modern looking, but it works for what we need. The air feels a bit cooler inside because of the thick walls of the old building. We’ve got a small temple on a shelf with a little lamp that we light every morning. Most of our day is spent explaining different data plans or fixing minor issues people have with their SIM cards. Since it is Sadashiv Peth, there are a lot of two-wheelers parked outside, making it hard to walk sometimes. We know most of the people who live in the surrounding houses. They stop by to pay their bills or just to ask about something they saw on the news. It’s a very local way of doing business, without any fuss or extra noise or fancy decorations.
