Aarti Super Market

Aarti Super Market is located in Shop 3 of the Vishal Apartment building. This is in Bhawani Peth, right across from the Ajmera Society. Being on the ground floor of an apartment block means we see the same faces every single day. It is a bit different from a street-side stall because we have to keep things a bit more organized inside the shop. We have aisles, though they are quite narrow, and we try to stock a bit of everything from cleaning supplies to grains. The sun hits the front of the shop in the morning, so we usually have to keep the shade down. We spend a lot of time checking the dates on packets and making sure nothing is sitting on the shelf for too long. It is a lot of lifting and carrying when the new stock arrives. Bhawani Peth is a very crowded area of Pune, but our little corner near the society feels a bit more like a community. We aren't trying to be one of those huge malls you see elsewhere. It is just me and a couple of others keeping the place running. Sometimes the billing machine acts up or we can't find the change, but we manage. We have been here long enough that we know which neighbor prefers which brand of tea. It is just a regular local shop doing its thing day in and day out.
