Aai Jee Super Market

Aai Jee Super Market is right in the middle of Sangmitra Colony in Vadgoensheri. We are part of Mahadev Nagar 1 and the building has been here for quite some time. The shelves are packed with bags of rice, lentils, and different types of flour. We try to keep the soaps and cleaners on one side so they don't smell up the food items. It gets very crowded in the evenings when everyone comes back from their jobs to buy things for dinner. I usually stand behind the counter near the big sacks of grains. The lighting is a bit bright but it helps us see the small print on the labels. We have a fridge in the back for the milk and curd which hums loudly all day and night. The floor is made of grey stone and shows all the footprints from the rainy weather outside. Children often come in with a few coins to buy small packets of biscuits or some candy from the jars. We know most of the families living in the colony by their names. It is a lot of lifting heavy boxes and putting things back where they belong after people move them around. The front door stays open to let some air in even when the street is dusty. By the time we lock the door at night, the shelves look a bit empty and we have to start planning for the next delivery.
