Sarup Chand Rice Mill

Sarup Chand Rice Mill is located out on Patiala Road in the Eamana area. It is a pretty visible spot if you are driving that way, with the big structures and the constant activity of the mill. Running a rice mill is a noisy business, and the sound of the hullers is something you just get used to after the first week. We have a lot of farmers coming in and out with their loads, so there is always someone to talk to or a new problem to solve. The yard is usually full of tractors and the occasional stray dog looking for a scrap. We don't have a fancy reception area or anyone to bring you coffee; we usually just grab a cup from the stall across the road. The work is dirty and involves a lot of sweat, especially during the harvest months when we are running almost around the clock. Patiala Road stays busy, and we are right in the thick of it. The office is just a small room with a few ledgers and a ceiling fan that squeaks. We like it that way because it's practical and keeps the focus on the grain. It’s a traditional way of working that hasn't changed much over the generations. We just try to keep the machines greased and the bags moving without making a big production out of it. It is hard work, but it is honest and it keeps us busy through the year.
