Ramji Traders & Durga Rice Mill

Our business is located in Village Balbehra, which is right in the Patiala area. We are very easy to find because we are situated right near the bus stand. Having the bus stand so close means there are always people walking by and plenty of noise from the horns and engines. We run both a trading operation and the Durga Rice Mill from this same spot. It’s a family-run thing, and we’ve been here in Patiala for as long as I can remember. The village life suits us well. We know all the local farmers and the drivers who pass through. The mill is a busy place, especially after the harvest. We spend a lot of time out in the yard, checking the moisture in the paddy or talking to the traders who come to see what we have. It’s not a polished business by any means. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, and the gate squeaks every time it opens, but it gets the job done. We don't have a mission statement or any of that talk; we just try to trade fairly and keep the mill running smooth. Sometimes the dust from the rice gets everywhere, and we all end up sneezing, but that’s just part of the job. We enjoy the pace of the village and the fact that everyone knows where to find us. We keep working until the sun goes down and the last truck leaves the gate.
