If you find yourself on Patrol Road in Patiala, you’ll see us right near the FCI godowns. Being next to those big warehouses means there is always something happening. Mahavir Rice & General Mills isn't a huge operation, but we stay quite active. The sound of the machines is the background music to our lives. We spend our time checking the grain and making sure the machinery is doing what it’s supposed to. It’s not a glamorous job. We get dirty and the work is loud. There’s no air conditioning in the main area, so we just deal with the heat as it comes. Usually, there's a breeze if we keep the big doors open. We see a lot of different people coming through with their loads. Some are in a hurry and others stay to chat for a bit. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. You just walk in and find someone in the yard or near the mill. We like it that way. It keeps things simple. The proximity to the godowns makes it convenient for moving things around. We’ve been at this for a while and we know the rhythms of the seasons. When the rain comes, we have to move fast to keep everything dry. It’s a constant cycle of work. Patiala is a good place to be, and this corner of Patrol Road is home to us.
