Deepak Rice Mills

Out here in Bushera, at the Rural Focal Point, is where we handle all the rice milling. It is a quiet enough area until the harvest season starts. Then things get really loud and fast. We have the machinery set up to process the paddy that comes in from the local fields. It’s mostly hard work, moving heavy sacks and making sure the hullers are running like they should. Being in a rural spot means we are right where the grain is grown. We spend a lot of time cleaning the floors and checking the moisture in the grain. It’s a dusty job, and you’ll usually find us covered in a bit of chaff by the end of the shift. The mill has been part of this landscape for a while. We don't do much besides the milling and storage. Most of our days are spent listening to the hum of the engines and keeping an eye on the output. When the power goes out, which happens sometimes, everything stops and we just wait it out. It’s not a fancy office job at all. We just focus on the task at hand and try to get the bags loaded onto the trucks without any trouble. It’s just us doing what needs to be done with the rice crop every year. There is always a lot to do, and we just take it one day at a time.
