Raj Fancy Store

Being over here on Somnath Road near Surajpole means there is always a lot of dust and noise from the traffic. Our shop, Raj Fancy Store, has been standing in this spot for a good while now. It’s a narrow space, but we manage to fit a lot of stuff on the walls. We sell bangles, bindis, and all that small jewelry that doesn’t cost too much but looks nice. The wooden counters are a bit worn down at the edges where people lean on them while looking at the glass cases. Sometimes the tea man from across the road brings us a cup in the afternoon, and we sit there watching the motorcycles zip past. It’s not a glamorous job, just keeping track of hundreds of tiny items. If a box falls over, it takes an hour to sort everything back out. We don’t use any computers for the billing; everything is written down in a thick ledger with a blue pen. Customers usually bargain a little, and that’s just part of the day. Some days are slow, especially when it’s too hot for people to be out on Somnath Road. We just keep the door open and wait. The walls were painted green a few years back, but they’ve faded to a dull grey now. It’s just a regular shop for regular folks looking for bits and pieces to make their outfits look a little better.
