Gumal Farmer Producer Company Limited

We operate out of Village Agon in the Ferozpur Jhirka area. Ayyub, whose father is Fateh Mohd, helps us keep things running at his place. It’s a rural part of Gurgaon, far away from the big glass towers and malls. Here, life is still measured by the harvest cycles. We started Gumal because we needed a collective voice. When you’re just one farmer, nobody listens, but when you’re a group, you can actually get things done. Most of our members are from the villages around Jhirka. We grow a variety of things depending on the time of year. It’s a lot of sweat and calloused hands. We don’t have a fancy office with a secretary; it’s usually just us sitting on a charpai talking about the cost of diesel or the price of wheat. We try to keep things honest and straightforward. The paperwork for the company can be a bit confusing, but we help each other out with it. It’s a community effort through and through. We want to see our kids have a better future, and that starts with making sure our farms are sustainable. We aren’t experts in business, but we know farming inside and out. It’s a quiet life in Agon, but we’re busy from dawn to dusk. That is just how we get by.
