Kalra Namkeen Bhandar

Kalra Namkeen Bhandar is located over in Rani Bagh, specifically at WZ-956. If you walk down this street, you will probably smell the frying oil and spices before you even see the shop sign. We spend most of our day in the back area where the big iron vats are kept. We make different kinds of snacks, mostly the salty stuff people like to eat with their tea in the evening. It gets really hot near the stoves, so we have a couple of fans going all the time, but they don't do much against the heat. The front of the shop has these big glass jars filled with different mixtures, sev, and nuts. We use simple plastic bags to pack things up when people come by. It’s a small space, so things can get a bit cramped when there are more than a few customers at once. We don't do any big advertising; people just know we are here because of the location and the smell. The address is a bit tucked away, but once you find WZ-956, you’re right there. We keep the floor as clean as we can, but with all the flour and oil, it’s a constant job to stay on top of it. We just keep making the snacks fresh and filling up the jars as they go empty. There is no manager or corporate office, just a few of us working the fryers and handling the counter from morning until we close up.
