H. J. S. Stones Ltd.

Working with stone is a heavy business, and we’ve been doing it here on Richmond Road for a while. Our spot at 92/95 is usually covered in a bit of dust, but that’s just what happens when you’re moving this kind of material around all day. H. J. S. Stones Ltd. isn't a place with shiny glass walls or anything like that. It’s a yard and an office where we get things done. The trucks come in through the gate, and we spend a lot of time checking the slabs and making sure everything is where it should be. It’s hard work, and the guys are usually tired by the time four o’clock rolls around. Richmond Road is always noisy with cars, but you sort of stop hearing it after a few months. We use the post box for most of the mail because it's easier that way. Sometimes the rain makes the yard a bit of a mess, but we just put on our boots and keep moving. We don't spend much time on fancy talk. If someone needs stone, they come by, we show them what we have, and we figure out the delivery. It’s pretty straightforward. We’ve got some old desks and a coffee machine that’s seen better days, but it gets the job done. It’s just us, some heavy rocks, and a lot of daily chores to keep the place running. We just focus on getting the slabs out the door.
