If you ever go down to Khari Baoli, you know how it is. It’s crowded and there’s always someone shouting or a cart moving. We are over at 388/3, which is a bit of a squeeze like everything else in this part of Delhi. Varshney Bandhu Foods Pvt Ltd has been our name for a long time now. We deal with food stuff, mostly bulk things that people need for their kitchens or shops. It isn’t a fancy office with air conditioning that works all the time. Mostly, we are just sitting here among the bags and the smell of spices from the street. The building is old and the stairs are narrow. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and wait. My father used to say this market never sleeps, and he was right. We start early in the morning when the trucks come in. It’s a lot of lifting and checking lists. We don’t really have a big website or a marketing team. If people need something, they usually just walk in or call the landline. We try to keep things simple here. My cousin works here too, and he’s usually the one dealing with the phone calls while I check the stock. Dealing with grain and other food items means your hands are always a bit dusty. It’s just how it goes. Sometimes we have tea from the stall across the lane. That’s about it for us. We just keep doing what we do every day at 388/3.
