Shudh Masala Bhandar

Our place is called Shudh Masala Bhandar and we are located in Khari Baoli, specifically in Gopinath Market at 3-B. If you know this area, you know it’s the heart of the spice trade. The air here always smells like turmeric, chilies, and black pepper. It can make you sneeze if you aren't used to it. We deal in all kinds of whole and ground spices. The shop is small and old, tucked away in the market. We have big sacks of spices sitting on the floor and jars lined up on the shelves. People come here from all over to get their supplies for cooking at home or for their own small businesses. It’s a very traditional way of working. We weigh everything out on the scales. Khari Baoli is always packed with laborers carrying heavy bags and narrow carts being pushed through the crowd. It’s a lot of noise and shouting. We have been in this spot for a long time. The walls are a bit stained from years of spice dust, but that’s just the nature of the business. We don't do any fancy packaging. Most things are just put into plain bags. It’s honest work and we stay busy from morning till the market closes. There isn't much room to sit, so we are on our feet most of the day. It’s a very old-fashioned way of doing things. We just keep the spices fresh and the bags filled for whoever comes.
