From the moment the shutters go up in the morning, it’s non-stop. The street outside is narrow and always packed with carts and people carrying heavy bags. Our shop has been here for a long time, and the building shows its age, but it’s sturdy. We keep our stock piled high because space is hard to come by in Azad Market. There’s a specific smell of old paper and trade that sticks to the place. We don't have a fancy website or a big marketing team. It’s just us, the inventory, and the customers who have been coming to this spot for years. My father and his brother used to run things here, and not much has changed in terms of how we do business. We use a lot of handwritten bills and we know most of our neighbors by name. Sometimes it gets so crowded you can barely move, but that’s the way Shivaji Road is. We have a small back room where we keep the more fragile items and a tiny desk where we handle the cash. It’s a honest way to spend the day. We don't try to be something we're not. We're just a part of the market’s history and we plan to stay here at 2006 for as long as the market keeps on going.
