We are basically just a group of us trying to make a living in North West Delhi. The street gets a bit muddy when it rains, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the floor at the entrance. Inside, it’s mostly stacks of files and a couple of computers that have seen better days. We don’t have a receptionist or anything like that. If someone walks in, whoever is closest to the door says hello. Most of our work involves coordinating stuff for clients, which means a lot of shouting across the room or running out to grab a quick snack from the cart around the corner. The electricity goes out sometimes in the summer, and we all just sit there sweating until the generator kicks in. It’s not the most glamorous place to work, but we like the area. Barwala has a certain way of doing things that’s different from the city center. We know most of the guys in the other shops nearby. We don’t really do big meetings with slides; it’s more about sitting down and figuring things out over a cup of chai. It’s a bit messy and loud, but that’s how we like it and it works for us.
