Being on the first floor in Naya Bazar means we hear everything that happens on the street below. Plot 4096 is right in the thick of the grain market. It’s a tight space and the stairs are narrow, but we’ve made it work for years. We aren't doing anything flashy here at Rajat Pulses. Most of the day is spent on the phone or checking the samples that come in from the mills. Naya Bazar is always crowded, so getting anything delivered is a bit of a headache. You have to time the trucks just right or they get stuck in the lanes. Our office is practical. We have some old wooden desks and a lot of files. There’s usually a pile of pulse samples on the table for people to look at. We don't use much fancy software. A calculator and a pen are the main tools around here. The ceiling fan hums all day and we drink a lot of tea while we talk to traders. It’s not the kind of place you’d find in a high-rise building. It’s honest work in a very old part of the city. We know the other merchants nearby and we all just try to get through the day’s trade. Sometimes the market is slow and we just sit and talk. Other days it’s so loud you can’t hear yourself think. That’s just Naya Bazar for you. We just keep going with the flow of the market every day.
