The smell of chili and spices is everywhere and it hits you as soon as you get close. Our office is up on the second floor of Katra Ishwar Bhawan. It is an old building with a lot of character and narrow hallways. We have been here for a long time. It gets very crowded in the lanes below, especially with the handcarts and people carrying heavy sacks on their backs. We deal with overseas trading, mostly focusing on things we can source locally in the market. The office is small and packed with files. We have an old ceiling fan that makes a lot of noise, but it keeps the air moving. Dealing with people in Khari Bawoli requires a bit of patience because it is so frantic outside. We do not have a big sign or anything. Most people find us through word of mouth or by knowing the building. We sit among the ledgers and the samples, talking to clients from all over the world. It is a traditional way of working that has not changed much over the years. We take our tea black and our business seriously. It is a tough environment but we like being right in the middle of the spice trade action. We just do our work.
