Ashana Silver House

We are located on the 1st Floor of the Mercantile Building, which is room number 1213. This is right near Kucha Mahajani in Chandni Chowk. If you know Delhi, you know how crowded it gets around here. You have to push through the crowds and then find the stairs to get up to us. The building is old and has a lot of history in the walls. We deal with silver here. It’s not like a mall where everything is under glass and lights. It’s more of a traditional setup where we sit and look at the pieces. The air is always full of the sounds of the market below. People are constantly shouting or honking their horns. Inside, we just keep things organized as best as we can. We have shelves full of different silver items and ledgers where we write everything down by hand. Sometimes it feels like time stopped here thirty years ago. We don't mind that. It’s a reliable way to work. Most of our visitors have been coming to this building for years. They know exactly which turn to take to reach the Mercantile Building. We drink a lot of chai while we wait for customers to come up the stairs. It’s a long day, but being in the heart of Chandni Chowk keeps things interesting. There is always something happening outside the window.
