Metal Kraft

Metal Kraft is tucked away at 4623 in Deputy Ganj, which is right in the middle of the Sadar Bazar chaos. If you’ve ever been to Sadar Bazar, you know how packed the streets are with people and carts. Our shop is in an old building with narrow stairs that are a bit difficult to climb if you’re carrying anything heavy. The walls are thick and the rooms are small, which is typical for this part of Delhi. We spend most of our time surrounded by metal pieces and the sound of hammering or cutting coming from the neighbors. It’s a very loud place to work, but it’s the heart of the trade so we stay here. The light inside isn't great because the buildings are so close together that the sun barely reaches the lower floors. We have stacks of metal sheets and finished items everywhere, and there is barely enough room to walk sometimes. Lunch usually comes from one of the local vendors in the alley, and the tea here is always strong. It’s a rough and tumble kind of environment, not at all like those modern offices in the suburbs. We’ve been in this spot for years, and we know all the other shopkeepers on the block. It’s just how things are done in Sadar Bazar, and we’re used to the noise and the crowd. It is busy from the moment we open the shutters.
