Mamta Daal Mill

You can find Mamta Daal Mill over in Narela, specifically at Khasra No-515 in G-Block of Punjabi Colony. It’s more of a workspace than a fancy shop. The main thing you’ll notice is the sound of the machines running. We spend our days processing different kinds of daal. It gets quite dusty inside with all the husks and grains moving around. We all wear masks to keep from breathing too much of it in. People from the colony come by to get fresh lentils directly from us. It’s much better than the stuff that sits in bags for months. We have big piles of raw grain in one corner and the finished bags in the other. It’s heavy work lifting those sacks all day. My back usually aches by the evening. We don't have a front desk or anything. If you want something, you just shout over the noise of the mill and someone will come help you. We’ve been at this spot for quite a few years. The machines are old and they need a lot of oiling and care to keep them from breaking down. We fix them ourselves most of the time. It’s a loud, messy, and honest way to make a living. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill in Narela. We just want to do a good job with the grain we get. That's about it for us.
