Mamraj Chunnilal has been operating out of 5183, Naya Bazar for a long time. This area is famous for the grain trade, and we are right in the thick of it. The streets are narrow and always full of carts and laborers carrying heavy sacks. It’s noisy and dusty, but that’s just how Naya Bazar is. Our shop isn't anything special to look at, just a place where business gets done. We deal with the basics, mostly grains and pulses that come in from the mandis. My father and his father before him were doing this same thing. We know the regulars who come by to check prices every morning. There’s a lot of shouting and haggling involved, which is normal for this part of the city. We don't use much technology here, just the ledgers and a calculator. It’s a simple way of working. You learn to tell the quality of the crop just by running your hand through the pile. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where 5183 is and they come when they need to buy in bulk. We open early when the sun is just coming up and close when the market starts to quiet down in the evening. It’s a lot of hard work, but it keeps us going for another day. It is just life in the market.
