J. Brothers

Tilak Bazar Chowk is one of those places where you can never really find a moment of silence. J. Brothers is right in the middle of it at number 100, and we’ve been here long enough that the local tea seller knows exactly how we like our snacks. The building is old, and you can feel the history in the floorboards. Most days are spent moving stock around or checking ledgers while the fans hum overhead. It gets really crowded outside during the peak hours, with rickshaws and carts constantly blocking the way, but that’s just part of life at the Chowk. Inside, things are a bit more organized, though we always seem to have a stack of boxes waiting to be sorted. My brother and I have been handling things here together, along with a few staff members who have stayed with us for years. We don't really do the whole modern office thing with glass walls and fancy carpets. It’s mostly wooden shelves and metal cupboards stuffed with everything we need. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, and we just sit by the window and watch the people go by until it comes back on. It’s a simple way of working, really. We just show up every morning, open the heavy doors, and start dealing with whatever comes through the door. It’s busy and dusty, but it’s where we belong. It might not look like much to a stranger, but this spot works for us.
