Harsh Masale

We are located on the first floor at A-5 in Kirti Nagar, right near Chhote LAL Park on Shivaji Marg. If the wind is blowing the right way, you can smell the turmeric and coriander from down the street. Harsh started this because he was tired of the spices you get in packets that have no real taste. We have these heavy grinding machines that make a lot of noise throughout the day. It’s a bit of a workout moving the sacks of raw spices around. We spend a lot of time sorting through the chilies and peppercorns by hand to make sure no stones or dirt get into the mix. The walls of the shop are stained a bit yellow from the spices, and we all sneeze quite a bit when we’re grinding the red chilies. We don't have any fancy marketing people. We just sell what we grind. People from the nearby houses come up the stairs with their own jars sometimes. It's a simple operation. We don't add any colors or anything fake to the powders. It’s just pure spice. Sometimes we run out of something because the supply from the mandi was late, and we just tell the customers to come back tomorrow. We’d rather sell nothing than sell something that isn’t good enough for our own kitchen at home.
