Gulati Brother & Co

I start my day walking through Chawri Bazar. It’s crowded even at eight in the morning. Our place, Gulati Brother & Co, is tucked away in Gali Bajrangbali. Specifically, we are at No.3495, up on the second floor of the New Hira Market. The stairs are narrow and a bit steep, so it’s a workout every time someone has to bring something up or take it down. My brother and I have been here for a long time. The office is small and filled with files that have been sitting there for years. We don't bother much with renovations. It’s a working space, not a showroom. From the window, you can see the tops of the cycle rickshaws and hear the constant shouting of the street vendors below. Chawri Bazar is famous for its madness, and we are right in the middle of it. We usually have our first cup of tea while looking at the daily lists. It gets quite dusty because of all the construction and old buildings around, so we spend a lot of time just wiping off the desks. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are. If someone is new, they usually get lost in the lanes, so we have to go down and find them. It’s a simple, busy life. We aren't trying to change the world, just doing the work we have for the day and then heading home when the market starts to quiet down in the evening.
