Chhotey Lal Nanak Chand

Bazar Sita Ram is one of those places that never really changes. We are located at 446, Gali Sheesh Mahal, which is a very old part of the city. The name Chhotey Lal Nanak Chand has been on the door for a very long time now. The building is narrow and the stairs are a bit steep, but it’s been our home for work for generations. Everything here smells like old paper and the street food from the stalls outside. We don't have much space, so we have to be very careful about where we put things. Most of our day is spent talking to people who have been buying from us for decades. We don't use computers much, mostly just keeping track of things in big ledgers with pens. It can get very hot in the summer because the air doesn't move much in these narrow alleys, but we have our old ceiling fans that keep going. It’s not a place for someone who wants everything to look shiny and new. We have cracks in the floor and the paint is peeling in some spots, but it doesn't bother us. We know our business and we know the people in this market. Sometimes a tourist wanders in by mistake and we have to point them back to the main road. Mostly, it’s just us and the regular rhythm of the bazaar.
