Panna And Sons

Working in Bhagirath Palace is always an experience. We are located at No. 1826/1 in the Old Amarnath Building. It’s a very old place with narrow stairs and walls that have seen a lot of years go by. Panna And Sons has been around for a long time; my father started it and now we are the ones running it every day. We deal in electrical items like lights and switches. The lanes outside are always crowded with rickshaws and people carrying heavy loads, so it’s never quiet. Our shop is quite narrow, so if more than two or three people come in at once, it feels very cramped. We don’t have a big glass showroom or fancy displays with bright lights like the new shops. Most of our stock is kept in boxes on wooden shelves that go all the way up to the ceiling. Customers come in with a list of things they need for their homes and we have to go digging in the back to find everything. Sometimes we don't have the exact brand they want, so we just show them what else we have that works. It’s a lot of manual work, moving heavy boxes and keeping track of handwritten orders. We’ve been in this market so long that the chaos feels normal to us. It’s just how things are in this part of the city. We open up early and stay until the market shuts.
