Khari Baoli is a place you never really get used to, even if you work here every single day for decades. The smell of spices is so thick it stays on your skin and clothes long after you go home. B. H. Marketing (P) Ltd. is located at 2113-14, right in the thick of the market. It’s a chaotic area with handcarts, rickshaws, and people everywhere you look. Our office is a bit of a sanctuary from the noise outside, though you can still hear the shouting of the loaders through the walls. We’ve got stacks of ledgers and samples all over the place. It’s a marketing business, but not the kind you see on television with fancy presentations. We’re mostly talking to wholesalers and checking market prices on the phone. Things change incredibly fast in this market. One day something is cheap, and the next day the price has doubled. We spend a lot of time on our phones, trying to stay ahead of the daily shifts. It’s an old building, so the walls are thick and the ceilings are very high. It stays relatively cool even in the middle of summer, which is a blessing for us. We’ve got a small electric stove in the back room to make tea. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we know each other's habits. We’re like a small family.
