Amaresh Kumar Dilip Kumar is located at 2612-8 in Naya Bazar. If you’ve been to Naya Bazar, you know it’s the place for trade. The streets are narrow and full of people and carts. Our shop is right in the thick of it. We open up very early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool. Most of the day is spent dealing with different goods and talking to traders. We sit on small stools or sometimes just on the floor if we are sorting through samples. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. There are no fancy glass partitions here. We have big ledgers where we write everything down by hand. The ink gets on your fingers, but that’s how we’ve always done it. We know all the other shopkeepers around here, and we usually share a pot of tea in the mid-morning. It’s a noisy place with everyone shouting and the sound of heavy bags being moved around. It can be exhausting by the time we close up in the evening. We don’t really do any promotion. People know who we are and where to find us. We just try to be straight with everyone we deal with. It’s a lot of hard work and long hours, but it’s what we know how to do best.
