Agrahari Masale

Agrahari Masale is based at House No. 128 on Gali No. 19 in Gautam Colony. We are quite close to the JK Farm House out in Narela, which most people know. Our workspace is part of our home, so the smell of ground spices is in everything we own. It’s a narrow lane, Gali No. 19, so you can always hear the kids playing outside or the neighbors talking as they walk by. We have a couple of heavy-duty grinders in the back room that make a loud thumping sound when they are on. We mostly grind chilies, turmeric, and coriander. The dust gets everywhere, and we have to wear cloths over our faces so we don't cough too much. We spend hours sitting on the floor, filling small plastic pouches and sealing them with a little heat machine. It’s a slow process but we’ve gotten fast at it over the years. There is always a big mess of spice peels and stems that we have to sweep out into the alley at the end of the day. We don't have any big corporate signs, just a small board so people know they are at the right house. The work is hard on the hands and the eyes because of the spice oils, but it’s what we know how to do. We usually finish up when the streetlights come on and the neighborhood settles down for dinner. It’s just a small family-run thing in the heart of Narela.
