Our office is tucked away in Flat B 12 at the Purbachal Housing Estate in Salt Lake. If you know Kolkata at all, you know that Salt Lake is a bit more planned out and organized than the rest of the city, so it’s a bit quieter around these parts. We are right inside the housing estate, which means we see a lot of people walking their dogs or kids playing outside while we are trying to get through our work. It’s a residential area, so our office feels much more like a home than a standard workplace. We have a few simple tables pushed together and some old metal shelves full of folders and binders. The light in the early morning is actually quite good, and we usually leave the balcony door open for some fresh air before the humidity gets too high in the afternoon. It is not the kind of place where you’d find a big lobby or a receptionist at a desk; you just come to the door and knock. We’ve been in this particular spot for quite some time, and we’ve gotten used to the daily rhythm of the estate. The tea stall just around the corner is where we usually end up for a break. We don’t have any fancy signs or anything, just our name on a small plaque. It’s a plain, honest space where we get our work done without any fuss.
