Down here at 174 Rabindra Nath Tagore Road in Dakshineswar, things feel a bit different than the center of Kolkata. We are close to the temple area, so there is always that sense of being in a special part of the city. The building we are in has been around, and you can tell by the way the walls look and the way the air feels. We get a lot of people coming in who are just passing through the area or locals who have lived in Dakshineswar their whole lives. It’s humid most of the year, so the office is a bit of a relief from the sun outside. We sit at our stations and go through the ledgers and the screens. You can hear the buses and the rickshaws on the road all day long. Sometimes we grab a quick snack from the vendors nearby during a break. There’s no big corporate vibe here. It’s more like a neighborhood shop where people happen to handle their money. We know who is getting married or who is buying a new bike because they talk to us while we work. Rabindra Nath Tagore Road is always busy, but inside these walls, we just focus on the task at hand. It’s a simple life, really. We start early, finish late, and see a lot of familiar faces in 700076. It’s just us doing what needs to be done. We keep things moving as best as we can every single day.
