Subodh Pan Bhandar

You can find us at Sector 22, right by Chaura Raghunathpur. Subodh Pan Bhandar isn't much to look at from the outside, just a counter and some stools where people sit and watch the traffic go by. We’ve been here a good while, through all the changes in the neighborhood. Most of our day is spent prepping the betel leaves and making sure the sodas in the cooler are actually cold. The street gets really busy around five in the evening and that's when we're working the hardest. We know most of the people who stop by; they work in the shops nearby or live in the blocks behind us. It’s a lot of small talk and handing out change. Sometimes the jars of candy get empty faster than we can refill them. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just the sign above the door and the word of mouth from people who like how we mix things. The radio is usually playing in the corner, though half the time it’s just static. We just keep things simple. No big promises, just a place to get your pan and maybe a smoke or a pack of biscuits. It’s a bit cramped when three people are behind the counter, but we make it work. Just a local shop for local people who need a quick break during their busy day.
