Pioneer Tooling Services

Out on Phase II Main Road, at D 144, you can find Pioneer Tooling Services. The shop is in a very industrial part of town where the roads are often dusty and full of heavy vehicles. We have some pretty heavy machinery here for making tools and dies. The floor is thick concrete because it has to hold the weight of the grinders and lathes. When the machines are running, the whole place vibrates a little bit. We spend a lot of time measuring things with calipers and making sure the metal is cut to the right size. It is a lot of precision work, but the environment is quite rough. The walls are stained with oil, and the windows are usually a bit grimy. We have a small desk near the entrance where we keep our blueprints and drawings. Being at D 144, we get a lot of heat in the afternoon when the sun hits the front of the building. We don't have any air conditioning, just some big industrial fans that move the hot air around. It is the kind of place where you always have a rag in your pocket to wipe your hands. We have been here for years, and the routine is always the same. We start early, get the machines warmed up, and work through the list of tasks for the day. It is a straightforward shop for people who need specific metal tools made to order.
