We’ve been here in Govindpuri for quite a while now. My father started things up, and now I’m the one mostly looking after the day-to-day work at the shop. Modinagar is a busy place, but we like our corner here. Most days, it’s just the sound of machines running and a bit of grease on our hands. We do a lot of small parts and repairs for the factories around here. It isn't always glamorous work. Sometimes the machines act up or a delivery gets delayed because of the traffic on the main road, but we get through it. People know where to find us if they need something fixed or a specific metal part made. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that. Just the workshop floor and a small desk where I keep the ledgers. I usually have tea with the guys around eleven, and we talk about what needs doing for the afternoon. It gets hot in the summer, especially with the lathes going, but that’s just how it is. We try to keep things simple and honest. If a job takes two days, I say it takes two days. I don’t see the point in overcomplicating stuff with big words. We just want to do the work and make sure it’s done right before the sun goes down and we head home.
