If you take the road between Ootacamund and Coonoor, you will come across The Maidlaw Memorial School And Junior Collega in Ketti. It is located in a really pretty part of the hills. The school has a big campus because it handles both the younger kids and the junior college students. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here if you aren't living nearby, but the Ketti area is worth the drive. The buildings are old and have a lot of character, though that also means they need a lot of upkeep. We have a mix of staff who live on-site and some who commute from Ooty or Coonoor. The weather up here can get quite chilly, so you’ll often see everyone wrapped up in sweaters. The Maidlaw Memorial School And Junior Collega isn't a modern, glass-and-steel kind of place. It’s more of a traditional establishment with stone walls and wooden floors. We spend our days managing the classes and making sure the students are keeping up with their work. There is a lot of space for the kids to move around, which is a nice change from the crowded city schools. We just go about our business in Ketti, following the seasons and the school calendar. It’s a quiet life up here between the two towns, and we like it that way. We keep the fires going in the winter and the grounds green in the summer. It is just a steady, high-altitude life for all of us here.
