About Good Shephers International School – Education in Nilgiris
Up here in The Nilgiris, near the Fermhill Post Office, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We’ve been running Good Shephers International School here for quite some time now. The weather is usually cool, and we get a lot of mist coming in from the hills. It’s a quiet spot, which is nice for a school I think. Our buildings are spread out a bit over the slope. We don't have those massive glass structures you see elsewhere. It’s more of a traditional look with sturdy walls and slanted roofs for the rain. The students come from different places, and we try to make them feel comfortable here. It’s a lot of work keeping everything running in this terrain, especially when the rains get heavy in the monsoon months. We spend our days going through the syllabus and making sure the kids are keeping up with their studies. There isn't much noise around, just the sound of the wind and maybe some birds in the trees. We have a team of teachers who live on or near the grounds. It’s a long way from the main town, so we have to be quite self-sufficient with most of our supplies. We don't make a big fuss about things. We just provide a place for education and try to do a decent job of it every single day. Life here is steady and very quiet.
