We are situated at 1455/18,19 in Shri Ram Market. This is located inside Gali Chhippiyan, which is off Mali Wara in the Nai Sarak area. This part of Old Delhi is incredibly old and full of history, but it’s also very, very crowded. Nai Sarak is famous for its books and clothes, and Gali Chhippiyan is one of those narrow lanes where two people can barely walk side by side if someone is carrying a bag. Our shop in Shri Ram Market is a small, traditional space. We’ve got shelves lining the walls and a small counter where we handle everything. There’s no air conditioning, just a couple of old ceiling fans that hum all day long. The smell of the old buildings and the street food from nearby stalls is always in the air. It’s a very different pace of life here compared to the newer parts of the city. Everything is done with a lot of talking and face-to-face interaction. Getting stock into the shop is a project in itself, usually involving handcarts and a lot of patience. We’ve been here at 1455/18,19 for years, and we know the rhythms of the market—when it gets busy and when it’s time to close up. It’s a tight squeeze, and it can be exhausting with all the noise and the heat, but it’s where we belong. It’s a real, honest place that doesn't try to be something it isn't, and we like it.
