Poonam Gift Palace

You can find us down in Palika Bazar at shop number 133. If you have ever been to Connaught Place, you probably know the underground market. It’s a unique place because there are no windows and the air conditioning is always humming in the background. Our shop is one of many in the long corridors. We have been here at 133 for quite some time. It is a small space, like most shops in Palika, so we have stuff hanging from the ceiling and stacked high on the walls. We sell all sorts of gifts and small items. It gets very crowded on the weekends when people from all over Delhi come to shop. The lights are always bright inside the bazar, so you lose track of whether it is day or night outside. We see a lot of tourists who are just looking around, and also regulars who know exactly where shop 133 is. Sometimes it gets a bit loud with all the people talking and the shopkeepers calling out. We just sit on our small stools and wait for customers to come in. Dealing with the crowd can be tiring, but it’s never boring. We spend a lot of time just organizing the small items so they don't get lost in the piles. It’s a busy, underground life here in the heart of the city. We don't have a lot of room to move, but we make it work every day.
