Our shop, Nand Kishore Malhotra & Co., is at 4777 in Hauz Quazi. If you know Delhi, you know how crowded and loud this area stays from morning until night. We are right in the middle of all that chaos. The shop itself is quite small and every inch of wall space is covered with shelves. We keep all sorts of hardware and industrial items tucked away in boxes and bins. It’s a bit of a maze if you don't work here every day. We don’t have a fancy computer system to track every little screw; we mostly rely on our memory and some old handwritten ledgers. The fans hum all day long to keep the heat away, but it’s still pretty warm in the summer. We’ve had the same neighbors for years, and we often see the same faces walking by the storefront. There isn't any polished marketing here. We just open the shutters, sweep the front, and wait for the first customer to arrive. Sometimes we spend the whole afternoon just counting stock or talking to suppliers who navigate their way through the narrow lanes. It’s a very traditional way of doing business, but it works for us. We don't use big words or make huge promises. We just sell what we have in stock and try to be helpful when someone is looking for a specific part they can't find anywhere else in the market.
