The Imperial

Being located on Janpath means there is never a quiet moment around here. The street is always full of people looking at shops or walking to work. Our place, The Imperial, has seen a lot of changes in the neighborhood over the years. We are right in the middle of all that Delhi energy. It gets quite hectic during the festival seasons when the crowds are thick. I usually start the day by opening up and checking if everything is in its place. The building itself has its own character, with some bits that show its age, but we like it that way. It feels more real than those new glass buildings you see popping up everywhere else. We have a small staff who have been with us for a long time. We know the local chai wallahs and the other shopkeepers nearby quite well. Sometimes tourists get a bit lost and pop in just to ask for directions to the metro or the main market. We don’t mind helping out. It’s just part of being in this area. The evenings are the busiest when the lights come on and everyone is out for a walk. We just focus on our daily tasks and making sure the floors are swept and the lights are working. It’s a steady kind of life, even with all the noise outside our doors on Janpath. It keeps us on our toes and we wouldn't really have it any other way at this point.
