Architect Alternative

Down near Chattarpur Mandir, at Khasra No-3, is where we set up Architect Alternative. It’s a bit of a trek for some, but it works for us. The area has a lot of character, which we like. We’re mostly just a small group of people who enjoy drawing and figuring out how things fit together. It’s not a high-pressure environment here. We usually have the radio on and a lot of paper scattered around. Sometimes it feels like we spend more time talking to contractors than actually designing, but that’s just part of the job in Delhi. We handle a mix of things, from small renovations to slightly bigger stuff. We don't have a signature style or anything like that; we just listen to what people want and try to put it on paper. If a client wants something simple, we do simple. If they want something a bit different, we try to accommodate that too. The office isn't always organized, and we sometimes lose our favorite pens, but the work gets done eventually. We’ve been here long enough that the local shopkeepers know us. It’s a nice little community. We just take it day by day, making sure the plans are solid and everyone is on the same page. It's not glamorous, but it keeps us busy and we like the challenge of making a space work better for the people living there.
