Britex Engineering Works

It’s a bit of a walk to get to Plot No. R-209 in the TTC Industrial Area if you don't have your own ride. If you’re coming from the Rabale station side, you have to navigate through a lot of trucks and tankers parked along the road. Britex Engineering Works is one of those places where there is always a layer of grease on the floor no matter how much you sweep. We’ve got the old lathe machines and a couple of newer ones that we use for the heavy engineering jobs. Most of the day is spent listening to the hum of the motors and the sharp sound of metal being cut. It’s loud, and you usually have to shout to be heard over the machines. The guys here have been doing this for years, so they don’t really need to talk much anyway; they just know what to do. We take in work from various sectors, mostly just making parts that people need for their own machinery. The office is just a corner partitioned off with some plywood where we keep the ledger and the phone. It gets pretty hot during the summer, especially with the machines running all day. We usually take a long break in the afternoon when it’s unbearable. It’s not a shiny corporate place, just a workshop where we get our hands dirty and finish the tasks on the list.
