Shiv Shakti Marble

Janata Market in Turbhe is a loud place. Our shop, Shiv Shakti Marble, is at Plot No-43 in Sector 23. This is the Cidco Service Industrial Area, so it’s all business around here. There are always tempos idling and people shouting to be heard over the traffic. We’ve got marble slabs stacked up high, and we have to be careful when moving them because space is tight in this part of Navi Mumbai. The ground is usually covered in a bit of white powder from the stones. We open up early and stay until the sun goes down. Most of our day is just talking to contractors or homeowners who wandered in from the main market area. We don’t have a lot of space for a fancy desk, so we usually just stand around the yard. It’s honest work. The stone comes in, we sort it by size and color, and then we wait for someone to need it. Sometimes the pieces are huge and need the big lifters, other times it’s just small scraps. Turbhe is a central spot for this kind of stuff, so we see all sorts of people. It’s not a quiet life, but we like being in the middle of the action here. We just try to keep the stacks organized so nobody gets hurt and everything stays in one piece. We get a lot of regulars who know us well.
