Our business is tucked away in the Marble Market of Kalamboli, specifically in Sector 23. We have Shops 193 and 194, which gives us a bit more room than some of our neighbors. If you’ve ever been to the Panvel area, you know the Kalamboli market is massive. It’s just row after row of tiles and marble. The noise of forklifts and trucks is the soundtrack to our day. We spend most of our time unloading crates and trying to keep the inventory organized, which is never easy with tiles. The air is often thick with dust from all the cutting and moving going on nearby. It gets very hot in these metal-roofed shops, so we drink a lot of water and try to stay in the shade when we can. Our customers are usually builders or people working on their own homes who have driven out to Panvel specifically for the market. It’s not the kind of place you just stumble upon. We’ve been in these units for a while now, and we know the other traders in Sector 23 pretty well. We share news about the market over tea in the afternoons. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. There’s no pretense here; we just sell tiles and try to keep the stacks from falling over. It’s a busy, gritty, and very active place to be every single day.
