Modern Academy

Modern Academy is located out in Village Charova, which is in the Chandauti area of Gaya. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city, so things are much quieter here. We are surrounded by fields and open space. The school was built to serve the families in the village and the nearby areas like Bhagawanpur. Before this, kids had to go quite far for their studies, which wasn't easy. Our building is a simple concrete structure. It’s not very "modern" in the way people in cities might think, but it’s got everything we need. We have several classrooms and a decent-sized ground where the kids play football or cricket when the weather is nice. The teachers often come from Gaya city, taking the bus or riding their bikes every morning. We have a lot of first-generation learners here, so we spend time talking to parents who might not have gone to school themselves. It’s a slow pace of life. Sometimes a cow wanders near the gate, or the local farmers are busy in the fields right next to us. We just try to provide a steady place for the village children to learn their lessons and get an education without having to move away. The water from the hand pump is cold and fresh, which is good because it gets very hot in the summer months. It is just a modest place where we do our best for the local community.
